FAQ

  1. Where is the Compound? For those that don’t know, Marty and Tom are not only friends and brothers-in law, but next door neighbors as well. Their collective addresses of 170 and 178 Lowell in Redwood City is affectionately known as the Compound, and is the starting point of most local rides. Here’s a link to a map showing the location.
  2. When does the DBC usually ride? Members usually ride on their own during the week, but there is usually a weekend ride either Saturday or Sunday morning, typically starting at 7:30 am. If we are training for a big ride, like a century, we may ride both days.
  3. How many riders make a typical ride? Currently, we usually have anywhere from 3 to 8 riders show up for a weekend ride, although we’re hoping to grow that number.
  4. How long is a typical ride? If we’re not getting ready for a century, we’ll typically ride from 25 to 50 miles. The Santa Cruz Mountains are right in our back yard, however, so most rides have an element of climbing involved. If we’re in training, the rides can get closer to 75 miles in distance, with elevation gains usually hovering at the magical 100’/mile. For a better idea, check out some of our routes on the Resources page.
  5. Does the DBC ever mountain bike? Although the DBC favors road bikes, most of us have a mountain bike hiding in the garage. When the weather gets ugly, we’ve been known to drag them out and get them dirty.
