What does Dips stand for? We get this a LOT, and the answer to this question lies in the origins of the Dips Run Club, which started back in 2001.

A few Dads at a local elementary school were also runners, and found a common obsession with a famous race that takes place on Mt. Tam the second Sunday of every June. The race is called the Dipsea, and it’s the oldest trail race in America. When these Dads decided to form an impromptu running club to help train for that race, they dubbed themselves Dips, and the club was known as the Dips Run Club

Flash forward 15 years and many of the original members of the Dips Run Club have found that Father Time has not been too kind on the joints needed for the running (especially knees and hips); consequently, many have slowed, or stopped running entirely. It’s fortunate that cycling doesn’t require quite the same rigor as running does, so it was a natural progression to change to cycling, and the DBC was born.
Today, the Dips Run Club still lives on in its skeletal self, with just a handful of runners to keep the torch burning, but the Dips Bike Club is picking up steam, with more and more joining its’ fold.
One last bit of DBC trivia is that the logo may seem like just a silhouette of a mountain range, but it’s actually to honor the elevation profile of the famous race for which it’s names.
